IAF personnel killed in gunfight with militants in Kashmir

Two Indian Air Force commandos, part of a joint security team, and two militants were killed in a gunfight in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday morning. Two IAF Garud personnel, who were part of the operation for training and experience goal, were fatally injured in the exchange of fire.

Reportedly, both the militants belong to Lashkar-e-Toiba militant group.

The deceased IAF Garud commandos were identified as Sergeant K Milind Kishor and Corporal Neelesh Kumar Nayan.

Initial reports suggest that the two militants killed so far have been identified as Abu Bakr @Ali Baba and Nasrullah Mir, son of Nazir Ahmad Mir, resident of Hajin.

Two AK riles, a pistol, 19 pistol rounds, a grenade, two pouches and other ammunition was recovered from the encounter site. This lead to a gunbattle, the official said.

Four family members of Parray including his father, two brothers and aunt were injured in the militant attack.

According to reports, mobile internet service was suspended to maintain law and order situation following the encounter.

According to the orders of District Magistrate Bandipora, class work shall remain suspended in Government Degree College Sumbal, Government Higher Secondary Sumbal, Government Higher Secondary school Hajin, Government Higher Secondary school Naidkhai and Government High School Sumbal today.
