Marino drops out as drug czar candidate, Trump says

He praised Marino as "a fine man and a great congressman".

"Marino has informed me that he is withdrawing his name from consideration as drug czar", Mr Trump said in a Tuesday morning tweet.

Marino's withdrawal came a day after The Washington Post and CBS' "60 Minutes" reported that Marino and other lawmakers may have helped fuel the opioid crisis via a 2014 bill Marino introduced that was created to make it more hard for the Drug Enforcement Administration to keep opioids from being distributed to potential abusers.

On Monday, the President had promised to reverse his nomination of Mr Marino to if "it's 1 percent negative to doing what we want to do".

Trump had nominated Marino, a Pennsylvania Republican, to head the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Trump called Marino "a good man" on Monday but said, somewhat ominously, "We're going to be looking into Tom".

This is important because the attack is apparently "exceptionally devastating against Linux and Android 6.0 or higher". That includes Wi-Fi enabled devices such as Apple computers, iOS devices, Windows computers, and more.

An early Trump supporter, Marino has not yet responded to the findings in the report.

On Sunday, Marino was the subject of a joint report by the Washington Post and 60 Minutes about his role as the sponsor of a bill that critics say undermined federal enforcement efforts against the opioid epidemic.

"This legislation should be repealed immediately and DEA's authority to hold drug distributors to tough standards should be restored", Casey said in the statement issued by his office. The legislation, backed by Rep. Marino and passed in 2016, made it almost impossible for the Drug Enforcement Administration to intervene in cases where large, suspicious shipments of opioids are delivered to pharmacies bound for the black market.

Rep. Tom Marino, R-Pa., speaks on August 1, 2012. "Even today's critics weren't aware of the specific implications", the official said. Also, a new appointee should give Trump a chance to follow through on a suggestion by a presidential panel he commissioned that he declare a national emergency on the topic.

In a letter to Trump, Manchin called the opioid crisis "the biggest public health crisis since HIV/AIDS". "It's a very important step", Trump told a reporter who asked when a declaration would be made. "And to get to that step, a lot of work has to be done, and it's time-consuming work", Trump said at a news conference Monday.

"This mind-set - it's extremely unsafe to legitimate business", Marino reportedly told Holder.
