Netflix Announces House of Cards to End Amid Kevin Spacey Scandal

The Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported earlier today that the award-winning Netflix series House of Cards would end following its sixth season, which is now in production and was slated to air in mid-2018.

"House of Cards" will end its run on Netflix with its upcoming sixth season.

Sources told TV Line, however, that the decision to pull the plug on "House of Cards" was made months ago and is not in response to the allegations against Spacey.

Spacey has apologized to Rapp via Twitter, while also confirming long-running rumours about his own sexuality and coming out as a gay man. News that Spacey and director David Fincher were updating the project, an adaptation of a British series and Michael Dobbs novel of the same name, as a beltway drama for the USA sparked multiple bids from stateside programmers (including HBO) before finally going to Netflix with a straight-to-series order for two seasons at a price tag then estimated to be around $100 million.

In a statement, Netflix said: 'Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night's news concerning Kevin Spacey.
