FSU suspends all fraternities, sororities in wake of student's death

Police are investigating the death of a Florida State University fraternity member who died at a chapter party Friday.

Andrew Coffey, a pledge at Pi Kappa Phi, died after attending an off-campus house party Friday.

Police said there were indicators that alcohol may have been a factor, but authorities were waiting for the results of an autopsy before determining a cause of death. "There must be a new culture, and our students must be full participants in creating it". Garrett Marcy, a 20-year-old Phi Delta Theta member, has been charged with selling and trafficking cocaine. Armstrong said there's more to fraternity life than just drinking and partying.

"We are overwhelmed with sadness any time we learn of the death of one of our students, and the FSU family provides extensive outreach to their family and friends as they mourn the loss of a young life", FSU Vice President Amy Hecht said in a statement. They also cannot have any organized participation in homecoming activities, which are scheduled for next week.

Alcohol is also banned at all student organization events during the school's suspension. They will, however, be allowed to stay in their houses and have meal service.
