Messi tells Barcelona to sign De Bruyne or Eriksen over Coutinho

Earlier on Wednesday, Luis Suarez said he thought Coutinho would make a big impact were he to sign for Barcelona and praised the playmaker's professionalism following his failed summer move to the Camp Nou.

Could Coutinho join forces with Messi and Suarez at Barcelona?

Barcelona attempted to sign Coutinho multiple times at the beginning of this season, resulting in the exciting midfielder missing six of Liverpool's opening games of the Premier League.

With the winter transfer window soon approaching, the saga revolving around Coutinho is taking a new turn every day. Barcelona made several attempts to land him in August, with bids in the region of £100 million made, but they were knocked back.

Suarez played alongside Coutinho for Liverpool before the former opted to depart in a £75m move to Barcelona in the summer of 2014.

Barcelona continued trying to reap in the Reds' star as the replacement for the void position of Neymar.

Philippe Coutinho is expected to miss Brazil's upcoming friendly with Japan due to a muscle injury, but he could be in line to return against England according to national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar. Though they remain in the market for the player with another bid possible.

"No player has retired at Barca because it is very hard and very complicated".

'I know him as a person and as a player because I played with him, but everyone knows what Coutinho can contribute.
