Trump turns to drug industry for his new health secretary

President Donald Trump has nominated former pharma executive Alex Azar as secretary of Department of Health and Human Services.

Azar worked for Eli Lilly from 2007 to 2017, serving as president of the company's USA division from 2011 to January of this year.

"ElevatingHome looks forward to working with Mr. Azar and sharing with him the many ways that home-based care is a vital patient-preferred, lower cost component of high-quality health care delivery models", the group said in an emailed statement.

Former U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Alex Azar was nominated by President Donald Trump Monday to lead the department as secretary, a post left vacant by the departure of Tom Price in September.

Aznar served in the George W. Bush White House on the domestic policy council and at HHS is a a former president of drug giant Eli Lilly.

Still, Switzerland dominated much of the first half and should have sealed its place at a fourth straight World Cup much earlier. But the longer the game went on at 0-0, the more empowered Northern Ireland were.

Democrats like Wyden, however, expect Azar to "faithfully implement" the Affordable Care Act.

As HHS secretary, Azar would oversee health agencies including the Food and Drug Administration, which regulates pharmaceutical companies including Lilly. Trump and Congressional Republicans have called to repeal the health law, and the administration has taken steps to destabilize it, such as cutting funding for some programs and refusing to pay subsidies to health insurers. Azar also served as the former Deputy Secretary of the HHS under former President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2007.

The American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), the largest skilled nursing provider in the nation, is also seeking opportunities to work with the potential new Secretary.

"'The drug companies, frankly, are getting away with murder, and we want to bring our prices down to what other countries are paying, or at least close and let the other countries pay more", the president told reporters gathered in the Cabinet Room, ' Trump said then. Early enrollment in Obamacare plans earlier this month was also up considerably compared to previous year.
