Apple postpones launch of HomePod speaker until 2018

Companies like Google or Amazon have shown high-end options more than interesting, such as Home Max, for those who they want maximum audio quality, and that will soon be launched on the market.

Apple has made a decision to push back one of the products originally revealed almost 6 months ago in WWDC. Apple Inc however, has chose to evade this season and wait till early next year to launch its much awaited foray into the smart speaker industry.

The HomePod speaker was announced in June, with an initial launch date set for December. Although Siri was early to the voice assistant party, the company is late to the smart speaker trend. Amazon's Echo line starts at $50.

"We'll start shipping in the US, UK, and Australia in early 2018", Apple said. There is also the high end Sonos which is also an entrenched player.

Smart speakers use "always listening" microphones to detect commands, then talk back with a smart assistant, such as Siri or Alexa.

The HomePod looks like an oversized toilet paper roll covered in mesh fabric.

Inside it sports an Apple A8 microprocessor, which the company claims is "the biggest brain inside of a speaker".

But in a statement seen by Buzzfeed's John Paczkowski, an Apple spokesperson confirmed that the it won't now be released until early next year.

HomePod is created to work with an Apple Music subscription and iPhone 5s and above running iOS 11. With HomePod, Siri would stop being only on iOS devices and Mac OS computers and would be much more present in people's lives through other devices. Luckily for Apple, its new iPhone X and iPhone 8 seem to be selling well enough.
