Israeli settler shoots dead Palestinian in West Bank

When they arrived near the Palestinian village of Qusra, they were attacked by several local residents.

A Palestinian villager was shot dead by an Israeli settler in a clash in the West Bank on Thursday morning.

Israel bombed six targets in Gaza with two "terror infrastructure targets" Thursday, injuring at least two Palestinians in the process.

A 48 year-old man, named by Palestinian media as Mahmoud Ahmad Zaal Odeh, was killed.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the 12 mortar shells launched, which the Israeli military said targeted a military post near where a construction crew was working on "important security infrastructure" along the border.

"One of the rioters was hit by gunfire", the statement added.

Israel's military said the settler had opened fired in self-defence after Palestinians threw rocks at a group of hiking settlers and students.

Palestinian Authority official Ghassan Daghlas said settlers confronted Odeh and ordered him to move. "IDF forces arrived at the site and rescued all the hikers". Medics also treated the wounded.

In response, one of the settlers opened fire with his personal gun, fatally wounding a stone thrower.

Over 600,000 Israeli Jews now live in settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, making a contiguous Palestinian state virtually impossible.

Israeli forces Friday suppressed a weekly march in Nilin village, west of Ramallah, causing a number of Palestinians to suffocate, said an activist. Israel says majority were attackers and that others died in clashes with Israeli forces.

Settlement building in the occupied West Bank and annexed East Jerusalem is considered illegal under global law.

On the 40th International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the world remains a mere spectator to Israel's ongoing occupation, frequent land seizures and continued violation of the Palestinians' most basic rights.
