Bengals HC Marvin Lewis Plans To Leave Team Following The 2017 Season

Marvin Lewis plans to leave his position as head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals after the season, according to reports.

After 15 years, Marvin Lewis is done in Cincinnati.

More on Sunday NFL Countdown. He's compiled a record of 123-111, making the NFL Playoffs seven times, including five seasons in a row from 2011-2015.

The Pennsylvania native had previously talked about how he realized jobs like this don't last forever. With head coaching jobs likely to open up across the league this offseason, chances are Lewis will be a fairly hot commodity for teams looking to reboot their staffs. "I think we all accept that".

Lewis, 59, entered 2017 on the final year of his contract.

Arizona Cardinals Place Adrian Peterson on IR
With Peterson's roster spot vacant, the Cardinals added depth to the secondary, claiming Goodwin from the Atlanta Falcons. He snapped in the first five games of the season for Arizona before getting injured in Week 6 at Philadelphia.

The report added that some Cincinnati coaches are "unhappy with the way they have been treated financially" after the team declined to offer contract extensions, which could be a factor in Lewis' decision to leave the franchise.

Lewis is the second-longest-tenured coach in the National Football League, behind only Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots.

Lewis' 15-year run in Cincinnati makes him the second-longest tenured head coach in the league, behind only the Patriots' Bill Belichick. Sources close to Lewis told the Enquirer he remains interested in coaching in 2018 and does not plan to retire.

The Bengals are 5-8 this season, third in the NFC North. Cincinnati is set to take on the Vikings in Minnesota today.
