While addressing a seminar on issues of national security in Islamabad, the official stated that India had been stockpiling a range of unsafe weapons as it threatens Pakistan continuously of conventional warfare.

"The stability of the South Asian region hangs in a delicate balance, and the possibility of nuclear war can not be ruled out", Janjua was quoted by the Pakistani media as saying at a seminar in Islamabad on Monday. "The US wants imbalance in the region to ensure that China does not rise and that there is no resurgence of Russian powers in the region", he said, adding that the country was also against China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Peeved at the United States for backing India on the Kashmir issue, Pakistan's National Security Advisor (NSA) Lt Gen (retired) Nasser Khan Janjua, warned on Monday that nuclear war in South Asia was a real possibility. But Januja said terrorism emerged in Pakistan only after the country made a decision to support the USA and the West. "Pakistan has paid a heavy price in its fight against terrorism but the world never recognised its losses", he said.

Insisting that it is committed to supporting the Afghan government and security forces in their fight against the Taliban, al-Qaeda, ISIS, and other terrorists, the NSS said the United States will bolster the fighting strength of the Afghan security forces to convince the Taliban that they can not win on the battlefield and to set conditions for diplomatic efforts to achieve enduring peace. Recently, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson even said that he had warrned Islamand that Pakistan may lose territory if it did not fight home-grown terrorists.

US President Donald Trump has asked Pakistan to take "decisive action" against terrorist groups operating from its soil, as he unveiled America's new National Security Strategy (NSS). "Peace in Afghanistan remains our top priority", he declared.

He accused India of stockpiling risky weapons and threatening Pakistan with war.

A recent Pentagon report on Afghanistan that was submitted to Congress has also suggested the U.S. could resort to "unilateral actions" in areas of divergence with Pakistan. The shocking comment came days after the United States backed India against Pakistan.
