Several Injuries Reported in Seven-Alarm Bronx Fire

More than 20 people were injured Tuesday morning when a seven-alarm fire struck an apartment building in the Bronx, a Fire Department of NY spokesman said.

The building includes three floors of apartments over retail spaces.

New York City fire department tweeted that over 200 fire fighters continued to fight the fire at 1547 Commonwealth Ave' in Bronx.

"Children starting fires is not rare", FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said on Friday, adding that the stairway "acted like a chimney".

One resident told NBC news that he fled the building, barefoot and bare-chested, along his three children into freezing temperatures that dipped as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius (minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit).

Officials say firefighters cleared the building, and no people have been reported missing.

The banner reads " Make America Gay Again " - a play on President Donald Trump's campaign slogan "Make America Great Again". Vice President Mike Pence and his wife have spent the past week at their residence in Aspen, Colorado .

"They will all be OK, thankfully", Nigro said.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Last Thursday, a fire at a residential building near Bronx Zoo killed 12 people.

All of the residents of the building were believed to have been evacuated.

This fire comes just days after 12 people were killed at 2363 Prospect The Bronx - the city's deadliest fire in more than a quarter-century.
