Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo leads NBA All-Star voting

He only trailed Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James. Kevin Durant is the conference's top vote getter, accruing more than 767,000 votes.

Joining Antetokounmpo and James, a 13-time All-Star, at the top of the Eastern Conference frontcourt are Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers (433,161) and Kristaps Porzingis of the New York Knicks (359,459).

Simmons is now sitting in the fourth spot behind Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, and Victor Oladipo in the East guards category. In voting for the West guards, Curry is followed by the Houston Rockets' James Harden (602,040) and reigning Kia NBA MVP Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder (438,469).

Under a new All-Star Game format, the player who receives the most votes in the Eastern Conference and Western Conference will each serve as a captain and will choose teams from the pool of players voted in as starters and reserves. Golden State's Draymond Green (325,612) was fourth.

Starters and All-Star captains will be announced January 18, and reserves (picked by coaches) will be announced January 23. Those two players will serve as captains for the 67th All-Star Game, which will be played February 18 in Los Angeles.

The brightest full moon of the year is tonight
A rare "Wolf Moon" last night ushered in the New Year as it lit up the skies above Britain and is set to reach its peak tonight. In addition, the so-called "full supermoon" appeared 30 percent brighter than an average full moon, according to NASA .

The starters will be determined by the voting system which, like last season, sees the fans get 50 percent and players and media share 25 percent each.

With the results of the first round of All-Star voting released on Thursday evening, Bucks fans were treated with a nice surprise as the leading All-Star vote getter so far is Antetokounmpo at 863,416 total votes.

The players will be sorted by their conference and position (guards and frontcourt players), with the two top guards and three top frontcourt players named as starters.
