Jon Gruden named Raiders' coach

It will make him the richest head coach in National Football League history.

Last Wednesday, Gruden appeared on "Golic and Wingo" to talk about his future.to answer the obvious question: Is he going to be the Raiders' next coach?

Gruden began his head-coaching career in Oakland 20 years ago Monday, leading the Raiders for four seasons before spending seven as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coach.

Del Rio was the Raiders' coach for three seasons, the longest tenure among the team's nine head coaches since Gruden's departure.

The Raiders fired Jack Del Rio after the team went 6-10 following a season in which they made the playoffs with a record of 12-4.

The offence regressed after the decision to fire co-ordinator Bill Musgrave and replace him with untested Todd Downing.

The Mercury News said the 54-year-old Gruden had signed the richest coaching contract in the National Football League, with the agreement worth $100 million over 10 years.

The defensive line struggles with defense coordinator Ken Norton Jr., leading to a late-season firing and replacement with John Pagano.

The ESPN broadcaster agreed on a 10-year, $100 million deal with the Oakland Raiders. Overall, Gruden is 95-81 in 11 seasons.

While you may or may not be familiar with his work, or who he is, here's five things you should know about the team's newest Head Coach.

In 2006, former owner Al Davis hired Art Shell, after firing him the first time. His Buccaneers beat the Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII. Shell went 2-14 that season and was sacked after one year.
