Chairman Bill Ford said the auto maker would have 40 hybrid and fully electric vehicles in its range by 2022. The auto manufacturer has announced that it's significantly increasing its planned investment into electric cars.

Mr. Ford said the company plans on delivering 16 fully electric and 24 plug-in hybrid vehicles to the public over the next five years.

"We're all in on this and we're taking our mainstream vehicles, our most iconic vehicles, and we're electrifying them". Ford has previously said it will make hybrid versions of the Mustang and of the F-150. "The only question is whether customers will be with us and we think they will", added he.

General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen have already outlined ambitious plans to offer more electric vehicles and also did General Motors who made his announcement last week about new driverless vehicle.
