Ronaldinho retires from football; former Barcelona star, World Cup victor

Let's do something pretty big and nice after the Russia World Cup, probably in August.

Assis said that sportswear giant Nike would help organise the farewell events.

His brother and agent, Roberto Assis, confirmed: "He's quit football, it's over". He later moved to the Gremio senior team in 1998 and then went to Europe to play for French club Paris St-Germain in 2001.

Notably, Ronaldinho has earlier hinted at getting retired officially when he said that he was "too old" to return to professional football in July previous year. While he was unable to capture the FIFA Club World Cup with them in 2006, or repeat World Cup glory that same year, he did add the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup to his trophy cabinet while picking up two La Liga titles at the Camp Nou.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard describes Ronaldinho as otherworldly in his Instagram post.

Turkey Threatens to Attack Kurdish Allies of USA in Syria
Turkey sent troops into Syria in 2016 to prevent Syrian Kurdish fighters from forming a contiguous entity along its border. There are now some 2,000 USA troops in Syria , mainly training local forces to root out remaining extremist strongholds.

The player known for his nearly constant smile then moved to Italy with where he won the Serie A in 2010-11 with AC Milan before moving back to Brazil and ending his career for Fluminense.

He played 101 times for Brazil, scoring 35 goals including a 40-yard free kick which knocked England out the 2002 World Cup.

Ronaldinho returned to his home country in 2011 with Atletico Mineiro, before rounding off his career with Queretaro in Mexico and finally Fluminense. He earned the last of his 98 Brazil caps against Chile in April 2013.

Simply with Ronaldinho hanging up his boots, it's the end of an era. Exquisite passing, sensational skills, dazzling dribbling and two incredible goals saw him receive an accolade only Diego Maradona has ever got in a Barcelona shirt. He now leaves the sport having blessed millions of fans with the cherished memories of his play.
