Could Apple's iPhone battery programme mean people upgrade less often?

For Malaysian iPhone users affected by this, Apple has confirmed that the discounted battery replacement prices will also apply in Malaysia.

A full month ahead of schedule, Apple has slashed the price of battery replacement for certain iPhones to $29. "Initial supplies of some replacement batteries may be limited", CNN quoted an Apple spokesperson as saying.

Back in February when iPhone released its iOS 10.2.1, it just virtually stated about it improvements for minimizing occurrences of the uninvited shutdowns.

But no matter what Apple says in the documentation it posted online, it's absolutely clear that people do notice their iPhone getting slower than usual.

Ronaldinho retires from football; former Barcelona star, World Cup victor
He played 101 times for Brazil, scoring 35 goals including a 40-yard free kick which knocked England out the 2002 World Cup. He later moved to the Gremio senior team in 1998 and then went to Europe to play for French club Paris St-Germain in 2001.

The Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S users who don't want to upgrade to iPhone 8 don't need to worry. Upon checking the phone using the processor benchmarking service Geekbench, the user discovered the device's CPU was significantly slower with the old battery.

In an update to the original statement, Apple has now brought forward its replacement program so you can get a new battery for your iPhone 6 (or later) handset starting right now. While its reasoning for slowing down older devices (extending their lifespan) may be sound, the delayed lack of transparency around the situation has fuelled existing conspiracy theories that Apple reduces the performance of older devices simply to encourage customers to buy new replacements. More than a dozen lawsuits have been filed against the company already and there are sure to be more.

"We've been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process", Apple said yesterday in its online apology.

While Apple apologised, it never admitted a mistake. The company also faces a legal complaint in France, where so-called "planned obsolesce" is against the law. While the Cupertino tech company slotted the battery replacement in late January, the program is now live in the U.S. and around the globe. It was only stuck in explaining that the changes it made result shutdowns that are temporary on fewer older models of iPhones having degraded batteries, lately after a controversy ignited again.
