Gunners make fresh bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

At this stage it is no secret that Arsenal are in hot pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang fuelled speculation he was on his way to Arsenal yesterday by packing up his vehicle with boxes.

The German club are looking to net £55m from the sale of Aubameyang, which would be a club-record deal for Arsenal.

Arsenal are hopeful that Armenia midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan's transfer from Manchester United and Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's expected move from Borussia Dortmund will convince Mesut Özil to stay at the London football club, according to EveningStandard.

In the meantime, Sky Sports have reported that Arsenal have had a bid rejected by Dortmund for the player. But, the deal looks far from completion as Dortmund, in a new twist, has laid down a serious demand for a replacement.

Wenger yesterday insisted a deal was still some way away.

Lindsey Graham: Immigration Deals Undercut by Stephen Miller
In short, the Lindsey Graham proposal is amnesty now, border security maybe, illegal immigrants first, Americans last. Some on Capitol Hill are arguing that Miller is pushing President Trump to be too much of an immigration hawk.

Arsenal will face off against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup this evening but Arsene Wenger has been answering questions on another subject.

Aubameyang remains one of Wenger's top targets this month and it was believed that he was willing to let Olivier Giroud move to the Westfalenstadion as part of the deal but Wednesday's bid is said to have been a cash-only offer.

However, Arsenal are unwilling to pay more than they spent on Alexandre Lacazette, which was £52.7m from Lyon last summer.

Wenger revealed on Monday that he is neither "confident or not confident" about completing the signing.

Asked why he started with four at the back, Wenger said: "Because we know each other well, we've had many draws and we wanted to win the game, we needed to score and overall I think the system, once I changed some things at half-time, worked quite well".

"We have plenty of opportunities in different positions, you know, so the final decision is not made".
