Wenger left exposed by Sanchez sale to United

The Chile global is set to become a Manchester United player after a deal was agreed with Arsenal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan to head in the other direction over the weekend.

That's not the opinion of former United star Ince, though, who believes the real reason behind Sanchez's choice is that the Red Devils are "miles bigger" than their crosstown rivals and that it's "a fact" the world's top stars would still prefer a move to Old Trafford despite City's recent success.

Arsenal boss Wenger said he was happy to acquire Mkhitaryan in the deal.

When pressed how he is going to fit in his pending new recruits, especially given that the club plays with one out-and-out striker, Wenger did not seem concerned. "I think that also gets through to the player", added the Chilean goal-scoring machine.

"The chance to play in this historic stadium (Old Trafford) and to work with (United manager) Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down". We're still the biggest club in the league and we can get who we want'.

In a statement issued by United, Sanchez said he had spent "three-and-a-half wonderful years" at Arsenal "and I bring with me very positive memories of that great club and its fans".

"Henrikh is a very complete player", said Wenger.

It is surprise that the scores were as low as they have been, despite there being some very good players around. It was a revenge of sorts for Faf du Plessis' men, who had been blanked 3-0 by hosts India in 2015.

Martial has been much-improved this season and, with 11 goals from 32 games, has already bettered his tally of eight throughout the whole of last season.

He would have been available on a free transfer when his contract expired in four months' time but once City baulked at the amount of money involved in a mid-season deal, United manager Mourinho urged his club to step in.

The Armenian turned 29 recently, and was a part of the United squad that won both the EFL Cup and Europa League last season. He has five goals in 39 league appearances for United, rarely completing 90 minutes.

"He creates chances, he defends well, he can absorb distances and he's very committed as well", Wenger said.

"I really like to play down the left, through the middle but to tell you the truth, as long as I'm playing football, I'll fit in anywhere".

Mkhitaryan is cup-tied in that competition, so could make his debut against Swansea next week.
