White House Seems To Support Releasing Secret Congressional Memo

The committee reportedly could vote as soon as next week on whether to move to have the memo released.

Nunes' deliberate interference with a criminal and counterintelligence investigation, potential release of classified information and attempts to maliciously discredit the FBI should not be tolerated - especially coming from the Intelligence Committee chairman, who is supposed to be above partisan politics and is entrusted with the nation's secrets.

In a cover letter accompanying the delivery of the messages, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd explained that technical issues with the FBI's retention software prevented the bureau from capturing messages sent between the two employees on their agency-issued Samsung 5 phones from December 14, 2016, to May 17, 2017. Missing texts between the F.B.I.'s Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, and a joking reference to a "secret society", fueled dark accusations, including from Trump.

U.S. Republican Congressman Peter King of NY stated that Nunes absolutely intends to release the document and that the Department of Justice's complaints show that the department's aims were to propel a pre-emptive assault and to leak the FISA memo to its friends in the mainstream media. It comes from Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), who you might recall was forced to recuse himself from the Russian Federation probe after he came under Ethics Committee scrutiny for potentially revealing classified information as part of his comical attempts to protect the Trump administration from the investigation he was supposedly overseeing.

"This memo reflects the result of months of diligent investigation by the Committee".

Conservative Republican members of the House Freedom Caucus indicated earlier this week that Trump would support their efforts to publicize the memo's contents. Rep.

Schiff said that Democrats would ask the committee on Monday to make their rival memos available to the House on the same terms as the Republican memo, and that if the president declassified the Republican document, he should do the same for the Democratic version.

In general, the memo is about government agencies abusing the FISA courts and surveillance during the 2016 election.

Nancy Armour and Rachel Axon of USA Today reported the news, noting the first condition is the entire board must resign by Wednesday.

Since then, cries from both House Republicans and right-wing media to release the memo have grown.

"We're more interested in the source documents than we are in an internal staff memo", he said, adding the committee is "trying to figure out what source documents that they actually drew from".

In a scathing editorial, the Fresno Bee charged Nunes with failing to represent his constituents in California by "waving around a secret memo attacking the FBI" instead of focusing on "health care, jobs" and Dreamers.

The Committee has refused requests to provide its Senate counterpart with a copy of the memo, CNN reported Wednesday. The Trump Justice Department wants to see it-he won't let them. "Chris comes out of a Republican legal establishment world-or what used to be that world", says Sam Buell, a former federal prosecutor who worked with Wray on the Enron investigation.

The FBI has also informed Congress that it discovered that the bureau did not preserve text messages between Strzok and Page between mid-December 2016 and mid-May 2017.

The Campaign for Accountability complaint also says Nunes or his staff "improperly obtained" information about the identity of Fusion's bank from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

GREENE: I know you can't tell us what is in this memo since it's classified, but what can you tell us about it?
