Wozniacki makes history in Aus Open triumph

Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki clinched her maiden Grand Slam title and became the new women's world number one as she beat Simona Halep of Romania in a thrilling women's singles final at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

The world No.1 was 3-0 down when she arrived with total authority to win her first game of the match 40 to love. On this basis, it's completely logical to recommend Wozniacki as a value underdog to be celebrating her first Grand Slam title of what has still been an illustrious career.

The rattled Wozniacki promptly dropped serve for the first time, before regaining her cool to dominate the tie-breaker to pocket the opening set in 50 minutes. Top seed Simona Halep will face second-seeded Carolinze Wozniacki.

Wozniacki was up a break in the third, then went behind a break only to get it right back for 4-4, hold her serve, and then play an fantastic point while taking advantage of Halep's errors to win the match 6-4 in the third, taking the final advantage after front running for most of the match. Just a point prior to Halep's error, Wozniacki played an incredible cross court point to generate the only match point she would need. You stood by me every step of the way.

"But I think for the a year ago and a half, I've proved that I can beat anyone out there on court".

"I had a great year (last year)". I want to congratulate Simona, I'm sorry that I had to win today but I'm sure we'll have many matches in the future.

The XFL to return in 2020
It was announced that this time around the XFL won't use the tricks they tried last time in order to be successful. The players' salary structure is still in development, but players will be paid to play and paid more to win.

"Is just a tennis match in the end".

"I was hoping eventually it was going to turn around".

"I obviously feel very sad for her, but at the same time I'm very happy for myself". Both were playing remarkably throughout the game but it was Wozniacki who had the last laugh as Halep started struggling with high blood pressure.

On a hot, steamy night under the lights on Rod Laver Arena, the players were able to take a 10-minute break after the second set under the WTA heat rule. "I knew I had to try and stay calm".

After battling through a fortnight blighted by an ankle problem, Halep was gallant in defeat, but she let Wozniacki back into the match after breaking her three consecutive times in the final set. The world number two recovered, however, taking four set points along with a match lead. "We both played very well". I'm just so thankful. But she began getting tight when she was serving for the match at 5-4: From 30-15, she double-faulted twice and Mertens passed her with a forehand victor in between to level the set at 5-5. That's why I can say that I'm not sad for that.

Wozniacki even apologized to Halep twice in her trophy presentation speech.
