Akshay Kumar aims to bust period taboo with #PadManChallenge campaign

The challenge comes close on the heels of the release of Padman, a film revolving around menstrual cycles.

The challenge is a part of the promotion of superstar Akshay Kumar's upcoming movie PadMan. The Taare Zameen Par star posted a picture of himself while holding a sanitary pad and in turn challenged Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan to do the same. She posted this on her Twitter handle challenging Aamir Khan, Shabana Azmi and Harsh Goenka. Yes, that's a pad in my hand and there's nothing to be ashamed about.

And, within minutes of posting on the social media, people came pouring in with mixed reactions on the rather aggressive and huge challenge, especially for men.

. The film is based on the inspiring real life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who is credited to have invented low cost sanitary pads for the women of his village. "In 2015, I started writing about menstruation in my columns; 2016, I wrote about Arunachalam Murugunantham in my book; and 2018, I am producing Pad Man", she tweeted.

We Must be Proud of Our Heritage, Rahul Gandhi Tells Youths
It was with the BJP in mind that Rahul said to the people after the concert: "We will defend your culture, your way of thinking". The BJP, however, had its own variation of what it meant by 'soot-boot jibe it took at the Congress chief.

Alia Bhatt takes up the challenge thrown by Akshay Kumar to share her picture with a sanitary pad.

Looks like Padman is making an impact before its release on February 9. With his photo, he tagged cast of the film, Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor and producer Twinkle Khanna to do the same.

It's a lot like the stupendously successful ALS ice bucket challenge of 2014, minus the shivers and chills.
