4 injured in LA middle school shooting

Dr. Carl Richard Chudnofsky, chief of emergency medicine, said the teen's prognosis was good.

Police have arrested a 12-year-old girl suspected of shooting four students, one in the head, inside a Los Angeles high school classroom.

"(They) pretty much can be afraid to go to school to get an education because so many shootings are taking place". Inside a classroom, just before nine this morning, the two kids were shot and are now being treated in a hospital.

The shooting was reported just before 9 a.m.at the school, which has about 365 students in grades 6-8.

Claudia Anzueto, Jordan Valenzuela's mother, said the boy was crying when he called her from a borrowed cellphone to tell her he was OK. He said Castro emphasizes long-term goals such as college and career, and that has improved student behavior.

"We could not control or know about this situation, but our schools are safe", she said.

"Not safe, not safe, very insecure", she said.

Gayoom had been set to run for re-election virtually unopposed with all of his opponents either jailed or exiled. Shortly after Thursday's ruling the police announced on Twitter that it would enforce it.

The suspect, who a police spokesman said was as young as 12, was armed at the time of her arrest, but taken without incident. One boy with a gunshot wound to the head and a girl in fair condition after being shot in the wrist.

It was not immediately clear if she was the student in custody.

The district has a policy which states random searches should be carried out daily with a metal detector wand. Ramirez said the weapon was a semiautomatic.

The grandmother of the 12-year-old girl spoke briefly with CNN affiliate KABC. Three other people suffered minor cuts and scrapes. Vivian Ekchian, LAUSD's interim superintendent, said the district will provide emotional support to students and parents in the coming days.

It is unclear how the 12-year-old shooter, who was taken to Los Angeles County's Central Juvenile Hall, was able to access a gun, police said. Those three victims ranged in age from 11 to 30 years old. The police found a gun on the scene. The other victim who is a 15-year-old girl was hit by a bullet in the wrist. But the two children actually had grazing gunshot wounds, Strumwasser said.

Counselors will be on hand when classes go back in session Friday at Sal Castro Middle School, just a day after two students were shot in what police say was an accidental shooting.
