Ex-Patriot Brandon Browner calls out Bill Belichick over Malcolm Butler benching

Butler, a 2015 Pro Bowl pick and a hero for the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX, played zero snaps on defense.

Whatever the reason for that mysterious move by the New England coaching staff, it did not pan out as the Patriots allowed 373 passing yards and three touchdowns to Eagles quarterback Nick Foles in his Super Bowl MVP-winning performance.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is still keeping his reasons for Malcolm Butler's Super Bowl benching in-house. That was a power trip.

"They gave up on me", Butler told ESPN as he left U.S. Bank Stadium after the game. Patriots defenders had to adjust (physically and mentally) to playing without a reliable and consistent presence in the secondary without much notice.

Instead, Belichick started cornerback Eric Rowe, who said after the game he had "no idea" why Butler didn't start or play in the Patriots' 41-33 loss to the Eagles.

Patriots linebacker Don'ta Hightower took a passive-aggressive jab at his head coach by liking a critical Instagram post from former teammate Brandon Browner, who wrote this under a caption of Belichick after the Super Bowl: "Lost the game for us tonight". And recently retired Patriot Rob Ninkovich also weighed in, saying "I'd be pretty angry, I guess, because everyone out there on that field is giving everything they got and you want the best players out there with you".

Spice Girls to work together again
Melanie Chisholm has said the Spice Girls are getting back together because the world needs a little more girl power right now. But it didn't take long for a representative for Beckham to assure the masses that yes, the Spice Girls have reunited.

"I don't know but I could have changed that game though". Aside from a hiccup in the first quarter, Philadelphia didn't let the Patriots back into the game. Others have speculated more outlandish theories, but so far the only explanation the team has given is that they felt benching Butler gave the team the best chance to win.

"Very frustrating", Rowe said. "I don't know what it was".

"The guy has played a lot of football, so to not be out there I'm sure crushed him", Patriots safety Devin McCourty said. "I don't know. But I could have changed that game".

Belichick said on Monday: "I respect Malcolm's competitiveness, and I'm sure that he felt like he could have helped". Butler made play after play in that game before making the most important play to seal a championship.
