Netherlands name Ronald Koeman as new manager on deal until 2022

The Netherlands have officially announced the appointment of Ronald Koeman as their new manager.

He replaces Dick Advocaat, who oversaw the country's unsuccessful World Cup qualification campaign for Russian Federation this summer.

Koeman has signed a contract that will put him in charge of Dutch fortunes up to and including the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with the focus very much on getting there in the first place.

He succeeds Dick Advocaat, who stepped down after the team's failure to reach this summer's finals in Russian Federation.

It was a massive humiliation for the football-mad Dutch, causing much soul-searching, and an added blow to national pride after the team also missed Euro 2016.

The target now for the former Everton and Southampton boss is to reach the same level, on and off the pitch, as the team that finished third at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil under Louis van Gaal after losing on penalties to Argentina in the semifinals.

I'm really positive about the future of the national team.

Winter weather advisory issued for parts of North Texas
The storm will move up over New England on Thursday with a high pressure system moving rapidly behind the departing low pressure. A zone of soaking rain and locally gusty thunderstorms will set up to the south of the wintry precipitation.

We honestly wish them the best.

Koeman said he will work players harder on the training pitch. We have a lot of good players and talented players.

Koeman played 78 times for his country between 1982 and 1994, scoring 14 goals and winning the European Championships in 1988.

He was also an assistant coach to Van Gaal.

The former Everton manager's first opponents will be England in a friendly at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam on 23rd March.

Koeman said he would not be bound by the long-standing Dutch dogma of playing a 4-3-3 system.

The Dutch will then face world champions Germany and France in the new UEFA Nations League in September and October.
