Donovan Mitchell will replace Aaron Gordon in the Dunk Contest

With his participation in the dunk contest, the 21-year-old Mitchell will no longer play in the Skills Challenge which happens on the same night.

Gordon withdrew with a hip injury on Monday. In 2016, he finished as a runner-up in. But news broke Monday that he will miss a game because of an injury, and will also not compete in the dunk contest this year after all, per Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. He was eliminated in the first round past year.

Since it seems like everyone in the National Basketball Association can throw down windmill dunks nowadays, there were many possible fill-ins for Gordon. The first option should be Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell, who has showed off his leaping ability this season with a handful of impressive finishes throughout his 24 dunks. He also leads all National Basketball Association rookies in the scoring column and has firmly put his name in the Rookie of the Year conversation.

Knicks plan for future after Porzingis tears ACL
Perry was leery of giving any sort of timetable for Porzingis' return. "You think of the young person first". Catch me riding around the city in a Sonata.

Mitchell has been one of the biggest surprises of the class.

There is a long, storied history of big men performances in the dunk contest - and nearly all of them are less-than-optimal viewing for the basketball-loving public. I believe that it is a good thing that Hawks' rookie John Collins did not get chosen to appear in the Slam Dunk Contest.

In addition to Mitchell, the other Dunk Contest competitors include Indiana's Victor Oladipo, Los Angeles Lakers' Larry Nance Jr. and Dallas' Dennis Smith.
