Google Pixel Phones Record Poor Sales Numbers: Can Pixel 3 Save?

Google Pixel Phones Record Poor Sales Numbers: Can Pixel 3 Save?

While that's technically double the phones Google shipped in 2016, there's a fairly important caveat to take note of.

Google debuted the Pixel, the search giant's first branded phone, in October 2016, and unveiled the second generation of the device exactly one year later. TrendForce expects its sales to jump more than 70% this year to surpass 20 million units.

Data from IDC shows that Google Pixel sales doubled past year to 3.9 million, but still represents "a tiny portion of the 1.5 billion market size". Jeronimo notes that Pixel phones still only account for "a tiny portion of the smartphone market", and while that may be true, it's evident that Google is slowly on its way to become a real contender in this space.

Russians killed in clash with US-led forces in Syria, say associates
The US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis played down the incident, saying: "This could just be a local couple of guys doing something". What happened in the U.S. strikes? They crossed the Euphrates River, shelling an SDF base, where American advisers were present.

Google Pixel smartphones are nice, but that would not matter much if customers are not able to purchase them. When you delve a little deeper, though, it's perhaps not so clear-cut. The research director for IDC, Francisco Jeronimo, shared some interesting smartphone shipment numbers from the IDC's quarterly industry report.

With the recent acquisition of one of HTC's smartphone teams, Google appears more committed than ever to being a smartphone hardware maker. Google has proven it is good at the "phone building" part of being in the smartphone business-the Pixel 2 and 2 XL are easily the best Android phones you can buy. For comparison, Apple typically has sales stats showing over a million iPhones sold per day. Google launched the Pixel 2 in October previous year. That means Apple needed 4.6 days to sell 3.9 million iPhones - mind you, these aren't iPhone X units, as Apple did not divulge the actual split for the period. It wants to make the same high-end products Apple delivers, it wants to create its own custom hardware for them, it wants to control the software experience, and it even wants to improve user privacy.
