Turkey formally requests Syrian Kurdish leader's extradition

Olive Branch is widely believed to have been sparked by Turkish anger at renewed USA support for the YPG and Arab-Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces, which its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally has backed as the most effective ground force against Isis.

The special forces units crossed into Syrian territory from the southern Turkish provinces of Kilis and Hatay, local media reported.

"The entrance of the special forces is in preparation for the new battle that is approaching", Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag told NTV broadcaster, according to Reuters.

"Some regions such as eastern Ghouta are part of the U.N.'s ceasefire decision in Syria, but Afrin is not one of them", said Bozdag, who is also the government spokesman.

Bouchard, then 21, slipped and fell in the changing rooms after a mixed doubles clash at Flushing Meadows in New York City. Due to her injury, Bouchard also withdrew from the Japan Open, Wuhan Open, China Open and Hong Kong Open in 2015.

On January 20, Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch northern Syria, seeking to rout the Daesh and US-backed YPG, from the enclave of Afrin.

But French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday told Turkey the ceasefire did apply to Afrin. "Therefore, it will not affect Turkey's ongoing operation", Bozdag said, as cited by Anadolu news agency. PYD said Muslim was a key figure in the search for a political solution in Syria and appealed for his release, describing his arrest as "immoral".

Ankara says the YPG and PYD are "terrorist" extensions of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) which has waged a three-decade insurgency against the Turkish state. Ankara also insists that the offensive is exclusively aimed at wiping out terrorists, denying allegations that it has targeted civilians. Damascus also sent militias to Afrin to reinforce locals in their resistance against the Turkish onslaught.

Macron accused Syrian government forces of violating the United Nations resolution as attacks continued on hospitals and civilians in eastern Ghouta, and said the spiral of violence had to end before it led to a wider regional conflict.
