Gary Oldman's son defends star over domestic abuse allegations

Gary Oldman's son is defending the actor against domestic abuse allegations following his Best Actor win at the Oscars.

In addition to claims that he'd spent a large sum of money on prostitutes and drugs during their marriage, Fiorentino accused Oldman of choking her after she'd tried to call the police on him and then hitting her in face with a telephone receiver three or four times. "Anyone who says it did is lying", he continued, also expressing support for the Time's Up and Me Too movements.

Gulliver also faulted The Daily Mail for resurfacing the story by publishing an interview with Fiorentino on the eve of the Academy Awards, writing, "It has been troubling and painful to see that these false allegations against my father being written about again, especially after this was all settled years ago".

According to court papers, Fiorentino alleged that Oldman assaulted her in front of their children in 2001. She asked, "What happened to the #MeToo movement?". "My having lived, full-time with my father should be in itself, proof enough". And Gary and I are friends, so it's been very good and been very nice for our son, I think. "There never has been any guilt".

Gary Oldman won his very first Oscar on Sunday for his performance as Winston Churchillin Darkest Hour, but it wasn't without a fair amount of criticism.

Revealing that he hasn't spoken to his mother since he was 13, he says that "holding on to a relationship with her would damage my future".

In the same piece, Gary Oldman said Fiorentino's alleged addiction to pills and alcohol caused their marriage's demise. "Both of the children were crying", Fiorentino said of what actually transpired. My only hero." Of his mother, Gulliver explained, "Yes, she brought me into this world. "She didn't however, teach me how to be part of it".

He said that his father is "my one and true guiding light" and the man he "aspires to be", adding: "If it appears that publicly speaking ill of my mother is something I am either fond of, or accustomed to, that is not the case". In fact, I felt there were few moments to celebrate during the 90th annual film ceremony, and it was hard to get through the entire evening because of it - despite a few genuinely exciting wins.

The Oscar victor was accused years ago by his then wife of domestic abuse - but now, his son says "it did not happen". "In such a momentous year for his career, my father should finally be able to enjoy himself".

In 2017, it was revealed that Oldman secretly married for the fifth time to Canadian writer and art curator Gisele Schmidt.
