Elon Musk: SpaceX Vehicle Ready for 'Short Trips' Next Year

"We are building the first ship, the first interplanetary ship right now, and I think we will be able to do short flights, short sort of up and down flights, probably sometime in the first half of next year", he said.

"This question of reusability is so fundamental to rocketry".

"If things went a little bit the other way, both companies would be dead", Musk said.

The billionaire also detailed how society would function on a Mars colony.

Elon Musk's surprise SXSW talk this morning was a heavy and grave affair, full of discussion around all the ways humanity may be doomed in the future: from carbon in the atmosphere, World War III, and above all, runaway artificial intelligence.

While his projects such as Tesla's Model 3 "affordable" new vehicle have been dogged by delays, he's become the driving force behind a new space race. The company's Falcon Heavy rocket, which enjoyed a historic inaugural launch last month, was initially promised a 2013 debut.

As to what inspired him to begin looking into Mars exploration, Musk said it was the simple fact that no one else seemed to be doing it. There are lots of problems that need to get solved.

Since starting the season 10-9, Davidson has gone 10-2, with its only losses at Rhode Island , and in triple-overtime to St. The Wildcats responded with four straight points, grabbing a one-point edge on Kellan Grady's floater with 1:14 left.

"I think most likely the form of government on Mars would be a direct democracy, where people vote directly on issues", he said.

While the tech icon has frequently been forced to deny plans to name himself ruler of the red planet, he already has ideas for "entrepreneurial opportunit (ies)" including "iron foundries and pizza joints".

And he feared a nuclear war would destroy human life on Earth, reports the BBC.

In response to those who have dismissed his doomsay concerns, Musk had this to say: "Mark my words, AI is far more unsafe than nukes".

"We want you to get excited about the possibility of something new happening in space-the goal of this was to inspire you and make you believe that anything is possible", Musk told attendees.

The short film may have been a different angle for the Westworld team, but they showcased their ability to create an eclectic film portraying the time, effort and process of the Falcon Heavy launch as if we were involved ourselves - and let's face it, we wish we were.
