Drew Brees takes less to try and win one more with Saints

The dream of the Minnesota Vikings chasing Drew Brees is over.

With just a day to spare until free agency, the Saints got the deal done and signed Brees to a new contract worth $50 million over two years, according to Ian Rapoport.

A flurry of reports introduced the potential of other teams' interest in Brees on Monday, but Brees has said all along that he planned to play for the Saints, and the team has reciprocated.

Had the 39-year-old Brees remained unsigned by Wednesday, $18 million in dead money from his current contract would immediately count against the team's salary cap in 2018.

Drew Brees appears set to finish his career in New Orleans.

The journey which started from CBS Chowk, Nashik on March 5 is expected to end at the Vidhan Bhavan here on March 12. They are asking for complete loan waiver and transfer of Adivasi land to farmers who have been tilling it for years.

The Saints are pushing their chips to the center with Brees and Payton once again in 2018.

He has thrown for 58,097 yards and 408 touchdowns with the Saints - the most by any quarterback in any 12-season span in National Football League history.

Brees, an 11-time Pro Bowl selection, threw for 4,334 yards last season as the Saints reached the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

The Saints will hope 2017 was not an aberration as they move forward with Brees under center. Brett Favre also is ahead of Brees - for now - with 71, 838 yards and 508 TDs passing. As well as his close ties to the city, Brees would have been encouraged to stay with the team due to its emergence as a contender in the NFC.

In the process, Brees and the Saints became a symbol of New Orleans' resurgence after the storm that flooded 80 percent of the city, flourishing together during the past decade-plus of recovery.
