Kenyan President Launches China-Sponsored Doctoral Scholarship Programme

Kenya has had its confidence restored when President Uhuru Kenyatta reached a political truce with opposition leader Raila Odinga during the elections of a year ago.

He, however, expressed concern that, with diminishing chances that they could force a new round of free, fair and credible elections, joining hands with Jubilee Party was the only viable way to safeguard their political legitimacy.

"He felt that talking directly to the President was the most practical thing to do, given the circumstances", said a source, who described the meeting as initially "tense" and devoid of the pleasantries that have characterised previous Nasa get-togethers.

"Everyone is happy to see the two working together and we hope it will help heal the country and bring Kenyans together", he said.

And he has gone ahead to ask Kenyans to give the two leaders maximum support toward the unity efforts.

For Mr Kabando, he says he has been vindicated since what he stood for has come to pass.

Last week, President Kenyatta of the ruling Jubilee Party and Mr Odinga of the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) held lengthy talks at Harambee House before jointly addressing the press where they assured Kenyans that they had put aside their political differences in the interest of uniting the country.

Kimunya questioned why NASA's co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetang'ula and Musalia Mudavadi were complaining of not being consulted, yet they abandoned Raila when he swore himself in as the People's President.
