Facebook is making it easier to find its privacy tools

Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday turned down a request by British lawmakers to appear before them to respond to concerns about data privacy as the European Union set a deadline for the USA social media giant to respond to its own questions. Facebook has announced that it is making it easier to find its privacy tools and menu. Therefore, instead of having settings spread across almost 20 different screens, users can now access it all from a single place.

Will deleting Facebook fix our concerns about privacy, though? Facebook's new "Access Your Information" button allows people to delete anything from their timelines or profiles that they no longer want on Facebook, the company says.

"Facebook recognises it's clearly lost people's trust and it needs to get to work on regaining that", Stephen Deadman, its global deputy chief privacy officer told me.

On top of all that, Facebook is making it easier to download and delete your Facebook data.

A new Privacy Shortcuts menu has also been created for users to control data in just a few taps, with clearer explanations of how the controls work.

Facebook's data-broker targeting had been available for audiences in U.S., Brazil, France, Germany, the U.K., Australia. and Japan.

An aide to Healey said she already meant to join a multi-state lawsuit, led by the NY attorney general Eric Schneiderman. Census data is used to decide how federal funds are spent and how congressional districts are drawn, among other things.

Facebook is updating its privacy settings to make it easier for you to control what you share - with the social network and connected apps - and tools to delete the data it's collected on you.

Facebook has produced multiple iterations to its privacy settings pages over the years, often in response to criticism that the system is too complicated for most people to understand what they are and aren't sharing.

To control who sees your personal information, experts say you should adjust your privacy settings.

"We'll also update our data policy to better spell out what data we collect and how we use it".

"The person who's putting the content on Facebook always owns the information, and that's why this is such an important thing", Zuckerberg said, "and why Facebook is such a special service that people feel a lot of ownership over". "This includes posts you've shared or reacted to, friend requests you've sent, and things you've searched for on Facebook", the company adds.

"This product enables third-party data providers to offer their targeting directly on Facebook", product marketing director Graham Mudd said in a statement posted online. "The social media company had already found in focus group testing that users were concerned about a Facebook-branded device in their living rooms, given how much intimate data the social network collects", Bloomberg journalist Sarah Frier shared.
