USA refutes reports of attack on Syrian airbase

Earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed the airstrikes killed 14 people, including Iranian citizens at the military base near the city of Homs in Syria.

The Syrian government launched a fierce air and ground assault on Douma, the last rebel-held town in the eastern Ghouta district, last Friday.

Syrian state TV said there were casualties in what it said was a suspected U.S. missile attack on a major air base in central Syria but the United States denied it had launched any air strikes against the country.

"Several missiles hit the Tayfur airport".

But France's permanent representative Francois Delattre countered that only the Syrian government and its allies had the capability of developing the chemical and said that there was no doubt about who carried out the attacks.

Syrian state media had earlier reported dead and wounded in the strike, without giving casualty figures.

Trump referred in a Tweet to "Animal Assad" and criticised Russia and Iran for backing the Syrian leader, directly naming Russian President Vladimir Putin.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said Assad's government and its backers, including Russian Federation, "must be held to account" if it is found to have been responsible for the suspected poison gas attack. Big price to pay.

Israel said in February it had intercepted an Iranian drone launched from Syria, and carried out air strikes against air defences and Iranian targets in the country.

Sometimes, this condition can occur as a reaction to certain prescription drugs, or to illegal drugs such as cocaine or ecstasy. In this case, the patient's symptoms improved, and he was released from the hospital after a few days.

AP quoted SANA saying it was "likely to be an American aggression" though US officials told the organization no American military action had been taken. Syria's government has denied any involvement in that attack.

One video shared by activists showed bodies of about a dozen children, women and men, some with foam at the mouth. It says they had been held by the Army of Islam group since 2013.

Reuters could not independently verify the reports.

The European Union also laid the blame squarely on Assad's government.

Trump on Monday condemned the "heinous attack" in Syria and said he would make a decision on a USA response "probably by the end of today" after huddling with military advisers.

The EU also said evidence pointed to the use of chemical weapons by Assad's forces. It said the other three landed in the western part of the T4 base.

"The numbers keep rising as relief workers struggle to gain access to the subterranean areas where gas has entered and hundreds of families had sought refuge", the group said.

The UN Security Council will meet twice on Monday following rival requests by Russian Federation and the United States to investigate the alleged chemical attack.

United Nations war crimes investigators had previously documented 33 chemical attacks in Syria, attributing 27 to the Assad government, which has repeatedly denied using the weapons.
