Roma coach Di Francesco praised for invention after ousting Barca

In a stunning unforeseen turn of events, tournament favourites FC Barcelona astonishingly bottled a home-leg lead of 4-1 last night, as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of A.S. Roma at Stadio Olimpico. At Anfield the first goal from (Mohamed) Salah is offside. Roberto Firmino robbed Nicolas Otamendi and fired in off the post in the 77th minute to seal the win.

"It's hard [to keep calm] when you score the third goal, and the third goal obviously brings you the semifinal, but [Di Francesco] was clever, there were still 10 minutes to play, with added time nearly 15 minutes to play and we know what Barcelona can do, not just in 15 minutes but in one minute", Dzeko said.

In the intervening three decades they have won just one league title and four Italian Cups, but after seeing off what winning goalscorer Manolas called "the best team on the planet", coach Eusebio Di Francesco wants his team to aim for May's final in the Ukrainian capital. I was expecting something like that but I liked the reaction immediately after that.

"They were aggressive and they took the game in the direction they wanted it to go". I was not overly happy at half-time to be honest.

"The coach is the one who has to take responsibility", he added.

One video shared by activists showed bodies of about a dozen children, women and men, some with foam at the mouth. Syrian state media had earlier reported dead and wounded in the strike, without giving casualty figures.

Trailing 3-0 from the first-leg City manager Pep Guardiola had said his team needed to produce a "perfect game" at the Etihad Stadium if they were to achieve a famous comeback and for 45 minutes they were not far off that level.

Pep Guardiola, who was sent to the stands for the second half for arguing with referee antonio Mateu Lahoz during halftime, blamed the referee for their defeat. "Right now we feel terrible". "Whenever people see the things, he will decide the opposite".

Vehicle horns blaring, flags waving, fans singing in the streets and wild cheers pouring from every household, the Italian capital came alive Tuesday night as Roma knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League after a miracle comeback. Then they scored [again] early in the second half and at no moment were we capable of getting into the game because of how well they played.

Entering the second leg with little hope and a mountain to climb, Roma started the clash with a bang as Edin Dzeko opened the floodgates for his side in the 6th minute of the match.

However with just seven minutes left Manolas met another fizzing Kolarov corner with a unsaveable header, sparking wild celebrations on and off the pitch.
