Trump to Skip Summit of Americas in Peru: White House

The U.S. will still be represented at the Summit of the Americas, but Vice President Pence will be there, not Trump.

"At the President's request, the Vice President will travel in his stead", press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. After traveling to Peru for the gathering of Western hemisphere heads of state, Trump planned to go to Colombia to meet with President Juan Manuel Santos.

US President Donald Trump will not attend the Summit of the Americas in Peru this week, the White House said on Tuesday, citing a need to remain in the country to monitor the US response to a suspected chemical attack in Syria. The news of the cancellation of the trip is spread after Trump said Yesterday that the United States would have 24 to 48 hours to decide the response to an alleged attack with chemical weapons in Syria, from which Washington wasted no time to blame the government of Bashar Al -Assad. It was not yet clear what decision Trump will make in response to the latest attack.

"We can not allow atrocities like that", said Trump. "Russia could stop this senseless slaughter if it wanted, but it stands with the Assad regime and supports without any hesitation".

But when the President himself spoke, it was not about Syria but of his outrage that federal agents in NY on Monday raided the office and hotel room of Michael D. Cohen, his longtime lawyer and fixer. The raid was separate from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

Mexican president Pena Nieto to Trump: 'Threatening attitudes' are not justified
More than 20 people were killed in post-election protests, and Honduras has always been a unsafe place for activists. Organizers say Mexican immigration authorities are working with the migrants to get them papers to stay in Mexico.

Trump has reportedly told White House officials that Vladimir Putin bore responsibility for the attack by backing Bashar al-Assad's regime, whereas Russian Federation denies that the poison gas attack took place at all despite videos and pictures shared on social media and news sites.

"If he does it's going to be very tough, very tough", Trump said. "When I will not say because I don't like talking about timing".

That summit was expected to mark an important turning point in Trump's relationship with Latin American nations, but people close to him have said that he wasn't all that enthusiastic about the trip and is glad to have found a legitimate reason to call it off.

"He looks forward to promoting policy that will lead to an even stronger United States economy and working with our close allies in Latin America to collectively hold undemocratic actors in the region accountable for their actions".
