Man charged in Merrifield assaults

A Burlington man, 43, is facing several charges after a London woman, 29, reported she had been sexually assaulted in a south-end hotel room.

The victim's report to police in December has now resulted in charges against Timothy Hughes, 44, of Johnstown.

She later fled to a relative's home, where she called police.

Carlos Harper, 40, is said to have made the comment after lunging at the woman as she undressed to take a shower on Monday.

She said that it does, however, help with the hurdle of victims not knowing if they have any legal recourse after an assault.

Upon his arrest Tuesday morning, Harper denied the assault and told police he "had unprotected sex with the victim on multiple occasions".

The suspect reportedly approached the woman from behind around 10:15 p.m.in the 200 block of Linden Avenue and tried to pull her clothes off.

She told police Harper then raped her and watched as he forced her to "wash herself off in her tub" after the reported assault.

Police said that it would be investigated whether the accused has been involved in other crimes activities also and have targeted other minor girls in the past.

A Richmond man has been arrested in connection with the sexual assaults of a high school-aged jogger in Palo Alto on March 28, and another in Oakland on March 4.
