Possible ice storm to hit Leeds-Grenville this weekend

UPDATE (11:08 a.m. Thursday, April 12): A special weather statement continues for Bracebridge - Gravenhurst, Port Carling - Port Severn, Huntsville - Baysville and Town of Parry Sound - Rosseau - Killbear Park areas.

Dufferin County, parts of Simcoe, Peel and Wellington County were hit hard April 4th when freezing rain coated everything, knocking out power to thousands. The freezing rain is expected to change back to rain possibly heavy at times Sunday morning as temperatures rise above the freezing mark.

Temperatures in Waterloo Region are expected to hit their highest level in months on Thursday - and Environment Canada is warning of a potential ice storm two days later.

Saturday's forecast is for periods of snow, a high of 0 C and a low of -3 C. However, "increasing northeasterly winds" will bring colder air from an arctic high pressure system to the north, and that rain will turn to freezing rain and ice pellets. "Closer to the lake Ontario shoreline, only rain is expected".

To avoid any citizenship issues, the surrogate was later brought back to China on a tourist visa to give birth. After their death, their parents fought a legal battle to use the embryos and hire a surrogate to carry them.

Environment Canada says "a much more significant freezing rain event is looking increasingly likely for portions of Southern Ontario Saturday and Sunday as a slow-moving low pressure system approaches the area".

This has the potential to lead to a major ice storm in some areas, with ice accumulations of over 20 millimetres possible.

"There is still considerable uncertainty with regards to which areas may be most affected", the agency said Wednesday.

The national weather agency added that driving conditions could also be "hazardous" in some areas.
