Man arrested after allegedly assaulting passenger, resisting arrest on flight

Prior to takeoff, the boyfriend of a woman on the plane contacted authorities after he said Jacob A. Garcia began touching her, Miami-Dade Police Sgt. Lazaro Llerena told NBC News.

The "disagreement", according to the arrest affidavit started when Garcia touched a female passenger inappropriately without her permission.

A man aboard an American Airlines flight from Miami to Chicago Sunday night had to be shocked with a Taser and forcibly removed by police after allegedly assaulting another passenger.

American Airlines released a statement that read in part, "The instigating passenger was asked by our Miami team members to deplane and he refused". He then became combative with officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department. Subsequent uses of the taser allow the officers to place handcuffs on Garcia as they prepare to remove him from the aircraft. He was later taken into custody and placed under arrest, charged with five counts including battery, resisting arrest and depriving an officer of their means of protection.

According to a report from ABC 7 Chicago, a witness was able to capture the incident on video, where a man identified as 28-year-old Chicago resident Jacob Garcia got into an altercation with another passenger. American Flight 2446 left the Miami airport an hour later than originally scheduled. Finally they got him into a police cruiser, where the police say he "kicked the driver side rear window out of alignment", causing $150 in damage to the auto. But once inside the terminal, they say Garcia "collapsed to the ground" to hamper the cops and then reached for one officer's gun several times.

By that time, Miami-Dade police were called.

The airline said the crew followed procedure and began deplaning, but that's when a physical altercation between the same two passengers occurred. "We thank our crews and airport customer service team for their excellent work in this situation", American Airlines said in a statement.
