Trump's Budget Director Admits Giving Access To Lobbyists Who Paid Him

If you were a lobbyist who gave us money, I might talk to you. Dodd-Frank rollback dominates banking conference Acting CFPB chief mulls taking down public complaint database MORE should resign after comments suggesting he gave preferential treatment to lobbyists who had donated to his campaigns. "If you came from back home and sat in my lobby, I would talk to you without exception, regardless of the financial contributions".

According to The New York Times, Mulvaney told 1,300 bankers and lending industry officials at an American Bankers Association conference in Washington that when he was a congressmen representing South Carolina: "If you're a lobbyist who never gave us money, I didn't talk to you".

Norm Eisen, a former top ethics official under President Barack Obama, said the FBI should investigate whether Mulvaney's actions in Congress were directly influenced by campaign contributions. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said on Wednesday that Mulvaney has "made it clear that [his] congressional office was for sale" and called on him to resign immediately.

Well, how utterly noble of him to talk to the people he represented without asking them to pay up first.

"Very cool!" President Donald Trump responds to Kanye's Twitter love
The 39-year-old star took to Twitter in the midst of Kanye West's social media tirade to poke fun at the 40-year-old rapper. West, in a series of tweets, offered his support for Trump despite noting he doesn't agree with the president on all things.

Of course, most people would actually say this is the exact opposite of democracy, with elected politicians not voting on issues based on the people who put them in power want but rather by whichever lobbyists gave them the most money. Tuesday, he met with lobbyists and executives from the banking industry, promising further steps to gut regulations to prevent them from cheating customers.

Prosecutors now must now prove beyond a reasonable doubt that an official took specific actions in exchange for a bribe, illustrating an obvious quid pro quo.

Credit where credit is due, Mulvaney's startling admission is an example of honesty that is all too rare in Washington.
