United States gives green light to drone delivery test program

Apple, Intel, Microsoft and Uber will soon start flying drones for a range of tasks including food and package delivery, digital mapping and conducting surveillance as part of 10 pilot programmes approved Wednesday by the USA government.

There's a small chance that quite soon, you might actually, finally, be able to get something delivered in the United States by an autonomous drone.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has selected 10 state, local and tribal governments to oversee pilot projects that will go where no drones have gone before.

Though the satellite images are regularly updated but using a drone is expected to present more real-time information and images.

Startup Flirtey, which successfully made the first U.S. drone delivery in 2015, will use UAVs to deliver medical supplies for victims of cardiac arrests in Nevada and also track mosquitoes in Florida.

That being said, getting permission to fly drones around SC is one thing, doing it is another. Similarly it said that DJI, the world's biggest non-military drone maker, made about a dozen applications but had none approved.

The Department of Transportation left Amazon out of a list of companies that will be conducting a test to push for package delivery using drones.

Five 'most wanted' ISIS leaders CAPTURED in Iraq
Rankine-Galloway, said the US credited Iraqi security forces with the militants' capture "on the Iraq-Syria border". They were named as Saddam al-Jammel, Mohammed al-Qadeer, Ismail al-Eithawi, Omar al-Karbouli and Essam al-Zawbai.

The pilot project winners include the Choctaw Nation in Oklahoma, the Memphis, TN airport, the North Dakota Department of Transportation, the Lee County Mosquito Control District, in Fort Myers, FL, the Kansas Department of Transportation, the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, Virginia Tech, the city of San Diego, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and the city of Reno, NV.

Many folks have purchased drones as novelties, but some of the most interesting work with the aircraft are business uses.

According to Reuters, Amazon applied to deliver goods by drone to shoppers in NY but was rejected.

Pressed by Sen. John Tester, D-Mont., on the timing of an FAA rulemaking proceeding on a remote ID requirement, Lawrence declined to provide a firm estimate, but said his office is "working as fast as we can to put together a rulemaking".

It's a program that state, local and tribal governments applaud: providing them a voice in airspace regulation.

The USDOT announced 10 test projects that will allow companies including Alphabet, FedEx, and Uber to test the unmanned aircrafts across the country. While FAA gradually has begun approving waivers allowing night flights and other expanded operations, the industry wants to operate longer range flights for agriculture, inspections and deliveries. So-called beyond-visible-line-of-sight flights offer some of the greatest potential for commercial operations, but they also are among the most hard technically to ensure they don't strike other aircraft or veer off course. After both are formally proposed, it could take months before they are finalized.
