Colliding Red Bulls free to race in Spain but face close scrutiny

Jenson Button believes Daniel Ricciardo is fortunate to be in demand and wants to see the Red Bull driver at Ferrari next season.

Drivers Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo were nearly seven-tenths of a second away from pole-man Lewis Hamilton, with Verstappen setting a time over two tenths slower than that of fourth-placed Kimi Räikkönen.

"I think if it got to that point again where there's banging wheels and stuff, especially if the car's faster behind, then you'd probably expect at some point they'd go, "Let's swap cars and release one of them", said Ricciardo.

"So we're still going to race, but cleaner, with more respect - all that".

"Q3 I think we [Verstappen] both put in a good lap on the supers, which I don't think was our preferred tyre, just the way the auto is feeling this weekend I felt the softs were better so that is why I went for them in the second part of Q3". I chipped away on my lap time by a few hundreds, but it wasn't enough and they [Mercedes] put in some belters at the end. "I don't know what I could have done more with what we had".

"For sure, I expect Christian to definitely have a word with us tomorrow before the race", Ricciardo said.

Ricciardo suggested the different feel of the auto was a contributing factor to his Turn 4 crash during the first session. With the laps we put in, I thought we would have been a couple of tenths from pole not, what was it, six or seven.

A student's mother, Ana Salazar, told CNN affiliates KCAL and KCBS that her son texted her to say a shooting had happened. Agents with the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were heading to the scene, the agency said.

But after the race, Ricciardo revealed a problem on Turn 10 that hadn't been caught by the television cameras and cost him the opportunity at a podium finish. "It's not an ideal track for us now, because it's getting easier flat everywhere, so it's more flat out so it's not good". "We don't have that power mode".

When Verstappen was asked how he would approach Sunday's race, he said: "I will be even faster".

"I still don't know what the full story is to be honest", he said.

Many drivers were struggling to make the super-soft work at all on one qualifying lap and it looked as if teams would be trying to minimise running on what would before the weekend have been expected to be the qualifying tyre.

"Even for me it was a guess, so a bit tricky". But in general, I think they still trust us.

"I think a lot of people will choose a soft and a medium", he decided.
