Stormy row: Trump admits reimbursing lawyer who paid off porn star

Attorney for Stormy Daniels, Michael Avenatti speaks to the media after US President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen left the US Courthouse in NY on April 26, 2018.

The acting director of OGE, David J. Apol, concluded that Trump's report "meets the disclosure requirements" - the outside group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington had filed a complaint that Trump's 2017 form had improperly omitted a "loan" from Cohen - but noted that making that debt public "is required".

Earlier this month, Rudy Giuliani - the former Mayor of NY who recently joined President Trump's legal team - revealed in a TV interview that Trump reimbursed Mr Cohen for a $130,000 payment used to keep Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, quiet about an alleged affair in 2006.

But Trump's lawyers have previously said that Trump reimbursed Cohen for the $130,000 hush money payment he made to porn star Stormy Daniels.

The disclosure caps a series of contradictory statements from Trump and his representatives on the scandal swirling around lawyer Michael Cohen - which has widened to ensnare major corporations and a Russian oligarch.

Cohen has said he fronted the money for Trump, but the president did not list any debts to the lawyer in his federally required financial disclosure filing past year.

This is a developing story.

Mr Cohen, whose records relating to the settlement were seized in an FBI raid last month, is now reportedly under criminal investigation.

In a statement, Connecticut-based Purdue Pharma denied the claims and said the company will defend itself. He later withdrew the motions, allowing the district attorneys to continue handling the cases.

Swiss medicine company Novartis AG said it paid almost $1.2 million to Trump's lawyer, while other companies came forward saying they had hired Cohen for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Earlier this year, Trump told reporters on Air Force One that he had not known about Cohen's payment to Daniels.

In fact, Sater tells BuzzFeed that he and Cohen were still planning on travelling to Moscow even after Trump had secured the Republican nomination for the presidency - and that they had wanted Trump himself to travel to the country to work out a deal during the campaign.

After the one meeting in NY with Novartis staff, Cohen occasionally contacted Novartis, at one stage suggesting it build a new US factory. He also said Trump paid Cohen far more than $130,000 - Cohen received around $460,000 or $470,000, Giuliani said, which included "incidental expenses" that Cohen had incurred on Trump's behalf. "But we now have to wonder how many other liabilities for similar payments he has that he still has not disclosed because he has not been publicly called out on them".

Trump submitted the document on Tuesday, the deadline for administration employees to file their financial documents.

Trump's hotel in the United States capital, which opened in late 2016, took in $40.4 million during 2017 while the Florida resort had revenues of $25.1 million previous year. Novartis agreed to a $100,000 per month contract for one-year with Essentials Consultants.

Personal gifts disclosed by Trump include golf-related items from two professional golfers: a golf bag and clubs worth $1,150 from Kevin Streelman and $750 clubs from Bryson Dechambeau.
