The contestants then came for one more performance, a song dedicated to their hometown.

Not all viewers were happy with the outcome. "I'm so disappointed in America's vote", another noted. "I'm just so happy for her".

Judge Lionel Richie killed the opening with his iconic "All Night Long" and later on, Judge Katy Perry took the stage to perform with cast-off contestant Catie Turner, singing Perry's song "Part of Me". Live performances and voting by viewers began April 22 and continued for four weeks before Monday night's reveal of the victor.

Before the results were announced, Hutchinson said he couldn't lose.
