This week, they placed thousands of flags on the graves of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

If your Scout unit will be a part of this patriotic ritual, read this list of tips from my colleague Michael Freeman before heading out. The cemetery is located next to the Fayette County Board of Education building on Ga.

A Memorial Day ceremony is planned beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 28 at Fayetteville National Cemetery.

A Tomb Sentinel also placed flags at each of the crypts to honor the unknown interred at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

To be selected, a person must meet height and weight requirements, pass an aptitude test, and receive presidential clearance. "Plus, a scouts attitude is to help people - do community projects". Staff members will direct traffic to the assembly area and parking.

About 12 Boy Scout units participated in the planting, which takes place every year.

More than 250 flags will be raised, with a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps following the raising ceremony. The public is asked to park in the shopping center across from the cemetery on Seminole Street.
