Heroic teacher tackled middle-school shooter after running toward bullets

An Indiana teacher who was shot while tackling and disarming a student inside his classroom said Monday that his swift decisions "were the only acceptable actions" to save his seventh-grade students. Whistler remains in critical but stable condition.

The baseball game was originally going to be moved from Noblesville, but the IHSAA chose to keep it there to honor Jason Seaman, student Ella Whistler, as well as all of the faculty and students at Noblesville West Middle School.

"I was trying to stay crouched behind the back table, but also see what's going on and that's when (Mr. Seaman) was running right at him with this arms in front of him, and then he just tackled him against the wall. His quick and automatic action is being talked about all over the world!"

A 13-year-old student, Ella Whistler, was also injured during the shooting and is reportedly still recovering from a surgery at the hospital. He was arrested "extremely quickly" following the shooting around 9am Friday, local police Chief Kevin Jowitt said.

Seaman threw a basketball at the shooter and ran toward the bullets as screaming students sought cover, Stonebraker said.

Seaman thanked the officer who helped him and another colleague who helped keep Whistler calm after the shooting. "You're the reason I teach", he said.

Noblesville High School senior Jackson Ramsey started a GoFundMe fundraising effort for Seaman.

Friday's school shooting follows the deadly attack that killed 10 at Santa Fe High School in Texas.

Noblesville Superintendent Beth Niedemeyer says the community "endured a horrific and senseless tragedy".
