Kim Kardashian goes to the White House

People have expressed their anger and confusion after Kim Kardashian met with Donald Trump in the White House to discuss prison reform. But things went sour when they mocked her as "Kim Thong Un" and referred to the meeting as "The Other Big Ass Summit" on its front page.

"I think that he really spent the time to listen to our case that we're making for Alice", Kardashian told Mic on Thursday. "She was an ordinary woman whose courage ignited and united the heart of America to stand together against a very present evil that could no longer be tolerated", Johnson wrote.

Kardashian West took interest in Johnson's case after her story went viral previous year.

But before her trip to the Oval Office, Kardashian West Tweeted a message to Johnson.

Amy Povah, the founder of CAN-DO Clemency, has been advocating for Johnson's release since 2014 and says she has helped collect signatures from 70 organisations who support the pardon, as well as a letter of support from the retired warden of Johnson's prison.

After the meeting, Mrs. Kardashian West said in a statement relayed through her publicist that she was hopeful Mr. Trump would eventually grant Ms. Johnson clemency.

Canadian government to buy pipeline project from Kinder Morgan for $4.5bn
The province said it had pledged up to $2 billion for the project if needed, but said it may not need to use any of those funds. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized those differences in his first public comment since his government's announcement.

And how could anybody forget the last line, "Trump Meets Rump".

While the case is an important one, the amusing and somewhat depressing side has not been lost on Twitter, with numerous users pointing out that reality stars - of which Trump was one himself - now seem to be "running the country" and lamenting celebrity culture which "deifies" people like Kardashian West instead of real experts on important issues. "Today is for you", adding the prayer hands emoji.

Mr Kushner's First Step Act, which allots $50m (£38m) for rehabilitative programmes for inmates, passed in the US House of Representatives last week.

Trump also recently issued a posthumous pardon to boxer Jack Johnson, who was imprisoned on charges that were widely viewed as racially motivated.

The 37-year-old was expected to meet aide Jared Kushner, who has spearheaded stuttering White House efforts at criminal justice reform.

Kardashian West's husband Kanye West - with whom she has children North, four, Saint, two, and Chicago, four months - has also been supporting Trump over the past few months.
