Pastor killed by crocodile during baptism

The pastor, Docho Eshete, was conducting the ceremony for almost 80 people on Sunday near Lake Abaya in Merkeb Tabya district, BBC reported.

About 80 people were being baptised when Pastor Docho Eshete lost his life on Sunday morning, at the lake in Arba Minch town's Merkeb Tabya district.

It's a testament to his faithfulness to Jesus that he was willing to obey Jesus' command to baptize new believers, even knowing that Lake Abaya is filled with crocodiles.

His body was later recovered from the water with bite marks on his back, legs and hands, according to local reports.

An Israeli conservationist did not think any crocodiles would dare attack his canoe when he took it out on the Ethiopia's Omo River in 2014, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Even after their continuous attempts, fishermen and locals failed to salvage pastor Docho, police said.

A pastor performing a mass lakeside baptism was attacked and killed by a crocodile in Ethiopia.

'All of a sudden, a crocodile jumped out of the lake and grabbed the pastor'.

The "reddish-brown" water also makes it hard to spot crocodiles in the vicinity, per the Telegraph.

But they were unable to prevent the crocodile from escaping, it has been reported.

The Crocodile Specialist Group estimates that Nile crocodiles are responsible for more than 300 attacks in Africa each year.
