Fekir to join Liverpool from Lyon

It seemed like a deal would not be agreed before the World Cup because Lyon were hoping that an impressive display in Russian Federation would inflate Fekir's price tag.

According to French newspaper L'Equipe, the Reds have agreed a deal worth £57 million (€65 million) for the 24-year-old and he will have a medical on Friday. Liverpool, however, continued to press ahead with negotiations and appear to have broken Aulas's resolve to keep the attacking midfielder until after the World Cup in the hope of starting an auction. Fekir is set to play for France on Saturday evening against the United States of America, a game that will take place in Lyon's Stade des Lumieres.

Fekir is due to undergo a Liverpool medical at Clairefontaine, the France national team's training base, before signing terms on Friday.

The Reds earmarked the attacker as a key signing for this summer, with Jurgen Klopp clearly intent on overhauling the midfield following deals for Fabinho and Naby Keita. The club have also been reported as having in an interest in Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker as well as Xherdan Shaqiri, who was relegated with Stoke at the end of last season.

'The deal is at a standstill.

"The whole thing will certainly not be completed during the World Cup, and I don't think anything will change before it".
