Trump signs bill to expand private care at troubled VA

President Trump signed a new bill Wednesday aimed at increasing access to healthcare and expanding choices for Veterans across the United States; clearing the path for America's service members to receive services from the private sector. "It's less expensive for us, it works out much better, and it's immediate care", he said. Among other features, it will also provide support and benefits to the caregivers of severely disabled veterans who served before 9/11, thus extending to them the same long overdue benefits that their Post-9/11 counterparts receive.

Upper Peninsula 1st District Represenative Jack Bergman was present for Trumps press conference on the bill today and has released this statement.

The bill will streamline the Veterans Choice Program and VA community care programs to ensure that veterans are able to gain access to proper healthcare when and where they need it, as well when the VA is unable to provide it. The House voted 347-70 in favor of the bill and the Senate voted 92-5, sending the bill to the White House.

"I think this will make it an easier process", said Quincy native Jack Wingerter, 66, a 27-year Navy veteran who now lives in Belleville. "Our historic law gets rid of the government bureaucracy that has stood between Montana veterans and their health care".

President Donald Trump is setting up veterans for likely disappointment as he tells them they have freedom to get quick medical care from private doctors when they're unhappy with government-run health care.

Facebook bug set 14 million users’ sharing settings to public
If users did not notice the new default suggestion, they unwittingly sent their post to a broader audience than they had intended. The mistake happened, that company said, when it was building a new way for people to share "featured items" on their profiles.

The sweeping measure has bipartisan support and is part of an effort urged by Trump to improve wait times and care for millions of veterans. It also expands stipends for a popular program that pays family caregivers of veterans who served in Vietnam and later wars, for example, a priority for advocates. "I will continue to fight to improve care and fix the VA through my work on the committee".

The bill's passage into law is a part of Congress' efforts to do right by the nation's veterans, according to Isakson, the Senate bill sponsor. Currently, more than 30 percent of VA appointments are in the private sector.

The House Veterans' Affairs Committee passed Dunn's "Veterans Opioid Abuse Prevention Act" without opposition back in May. Many local veterans say it's about time.

The legislation would create a presidentially appointed commission to review the closure of underperforming VA facilities.

However, the administration says the creation of new funding is unnecessary and can be taken elsewhere from existing appropriations, after Congress recently approved a $67 billion increase in spending for nondefense programs in fiscal year 2019.
