Samsung's Chromebook Plus (V2) gets turbocharged with an Intel processor

Samsung's Chromebook Plus (V2) gets turbocharged with an Intel processor

The new Chromebook Plus V2 houses few upgraded features and a faster processor compared to its predecessor.

However, the new model has a slightly smaller 12.2 inch display with a lower resolution than the original Chromebook Plus of 2400 x 1600 pixels.

First off, the Samsung Chromebook Plus V2 is using an Intel Celeron 3965Y processor instead of the ARM SoC of the earlier model.

The Chromebook Plus (V2) will be available from June 24 for US$499.99, which makes it way cheaper than Google's Pixelbook by some margin but still a couple of hundred books more than more basic offerings from Acer and Asus. Under the hood, the laptop is powered by an Intel Celeron 3865Y processor, paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which is expandable up to 400GB via a microSD card.

The new Samsung Chromebook Plus (2018) can now behave like your personal magnified camera. The Verge reckons that the 2017 model could still be better in Android apps though - with its hexa-core ARM vs the dual-core Intel chip.

Kellyanne Conway claims 'nobody likes' policy of family separation at border
Senators Susan Collins and Jeff Flake wrote to White House officials on Saturday seeking more information on the policy. New immigration legislation introduced by House Republicans Friday does nothing to change the policy.

One big change, though, is that the Chromebook Plus (V2) has a 1920 x 1080 display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. There's also a 13-megapixel, f/1.9 aperture camera on the keyboard dock (the rear-facing camera) that complements the 1-megapixel shooter centered above the display (deemed the front-facing lens).

The company quoted in its official statement that it aims to deliver a premium experience to many new Chromebook consumers with Chromebook Plus V2, all the while maintaining its competitive price point.

Connectivity ports on board the new Chromebook include two USB-C ports, a single USB 3.0 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The design is sleek and comfortable to handle with rounded edges and a curved-cap keyboard built to withstand spills up to 60cc. "The Samsung Chromebook Plus (V2) offers even more functionality to users with multiple connected devices, including easy file sharing between Chromebook and mobile devices", Samsung said in a press release.
